Increased cerebrospinal fluid adenosine 5'-triphosphate in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

چکیده
Abstract Background Extracellular adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) has been suggested to cause neuroinflammation and motor neuron degeneration by activating microglia astrocytes in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Since we have developed a highly sensitive ATP assay system, examined cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels patients with ALS whether it can be useful biomarker ALS. Methods Forty-eight CSF samples from 44 were assayed for newly established, system using luciferase luminous reaction. idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) as control. Patients divided into two groups depending on their disease severity, evaluated the Medical Research Council (MRC) sum score. Correlations between other factors, including clinical data serum creatinine levels, evaluated. Results significantly higher than iNPH (716 ± 411 vs. 3635 5465 pmol/L, p < 0.01). more severe group (6860 8312 716 0.05) mild 2676 3959 respectively. functional rating scale-revised (ALSFRS-R) (37.9 5.7 42.4 2.8, 0.01) (0.51 0.13 0.68 0.23 mg/dL, lower A negative correlation of MRC score was demonstrated analysis adjusted age sex (r = -0.3, 0.08). Conclusions is particularly increased advanced may evaluating severity

Cerebrospinal fluid angiogenin level in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease. It is suggested that angiogenin (ANG) may play a role in the pathomechanism of this disease. The aim of the study was to measure cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) ANG levels in patients with ALS. Twenty ALS patients and 15 control subjects were included in the study. CSF ANG levels were measured by ELISA. Study results showed that CSF ...
متن کاملProteomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
The present study used comparative proteomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients in order to identify proteins that may act as diagnostic biomarkers and indicators of the pathogenesis of ALS. This analysis was performed using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) technology, coupled with 2-dimensional liquid chromatography...
متن کاملThe longitudinal cerebrospinal fluid metabolomic profile of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Neurochemical biomarkers are urgently sought in ALS. Metabolomic analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) using proton nuclear magnetic resonance ((1)H-NMR) spectroscopy is a highly sensitive method capable of revealing nervous system cellular pathology. The (1)H-NMR CSF metabolomic signature of ALS was sought in a longitudinal cohort. Six-monthly serial collection was performed in ALS patients ac...
متن کاملEvidence for Fungal Infection in Cerebrospinal Fluid and Brain Tissue from Patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
Among neurogenerative diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal illness characterized by a progressive motor neuron dysfunction in the motor cortex, brainstem and spinal cord. ALS is the most common form of motor neuron disease; yet, to date, the exact etiology of ALS remains unknown. In the present work, we have explored the possibility of fungal infection in cerebrospinal fluid...
متن کاملMeasurement of cystatin C levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
The diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is mainly based on clinical and electrophysiological features. It is yet to be confirmed if cystatin C (Cys-C) can be a candidate diagnostic biomarker for ALS. This retrospective study aimed at investigating the changes in the level of Cys-C levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of Chinese patients with ALS. CSF and serum samples obtained f...
